The whole purpose of being in the Texas holdem poker position is to act before you would if you were in a position directly in front of the dealer. Before the dealer has dealt the cards, you can see the hole cards of the other players, which are listed at the end of this article.
The “Poker Position”
The poker position is composed of two separate positions, the early and the late poker position. In the early poker position, you are the first to act. This is a great advantage as you can analyze your opponents and their cards well before placing a bet.
The second category of poker position, “late poker position,” is composed of those players who act after the dealer. This is a disadvantage because you have no information regarding what cards the others will play. In the late poker position, there is a greater chance of players to play their hands as they have more information. However, there is a greater risk of players folding to you since there are fewer of them.
How to figure out the Texas Holdem Poker Position
The formula to find the Texas Holdem Poker Position is as follows:
- Look at the players in the small and big blind. Each player in the small blind will be in the dealer’s seat.

- Look at the players who have already played. Those players that are sitting on the left side of the dealer are considered “in early position.”
- Those players who are sitting on the left side of the dealer are considered “in middle position.”
